S4E10 - What Might Our 30s Look Like? pt. 2
Monday May 03, 2021
Monday May 03, 2021
The one about shaping things to come.
In this final episode of our 4th season (mad right?) we took a trip back in time to take another stab at a conversation we both had last year, the one that kicked us off on starting this podcast.
Our first episode was technically meant to be a one-hit-wonder, something fun we could try and just see how it goes. In that episode, we talked about the global coronavirus pandemic and its effect on our world as 20-something-year-olds and what that might mean for our 30’s.
This time around we took our focus off the pandemic to talk about what we think our 30’s might look like and the plans we have.
We started off with a topic that probably gives every 20-something-year-old out there some level of anxiety, our careers.
Then, we turned the heat up talking about love, relationships, marriage and everything in between.
Once we got those out of the way, we dove into the subject of money, health and friendships.
We wrapped things up by attempting to answer the question about what everything (life) actually means. There’s something about looking into the future that can make you question if there’s really any point to a lot of things.
It was quite a reflective episode, a trend we seem to be keeping up with each season.

S4E9 - Immigrant Stories
Monday Apr 26, 2021
Monday Apr 26, 2021
The one about the realities of moving away from home.
Shoutout to @haryoola93 for coming through on this episode!
Ayotunde is a Nigerian who’s been living in Germany for 4+ years now.
To kick things off, it was only right to talk about our different reasons and motivations for leaving Nigeria 🇳🇬 in the first place and how it eventually played out.
We then talked about the integration process, knowing that we didn’t feel like we fit into our new societies immediately even though language wasn’t a barrier per se for any of us.
We also spoke about how we balance ourselves in trying to stay true to our Nigerian heritage and meeting the social and cultural expectations of our new environments.
Omo, it’s not exactly that straightforward.
Even trying to figure out where our loyalties should lie wasn’t simple; plus having to deal with the unrest that we know is happening back home sort of creates another mode of distress.
On a lighter note, we shared some of the not-so-funny stories that have happened to us as a result of being immigrants.

S4E8 - Unpacking the Talking Stage
Monday Apr 19, 2021
Monday Apr 19, 2021
The one about the talking stage and everything in between.
In this episode, we spoke about the popular but ambiguous aspect of the dating game “the talking stage”.
We brought on a familiar voice, @itss_yemi, to join us for this conversation.
Before actually diving into the meat of the topic, we kicked off the episode on an unexpected tangent, trying to figure out how women become active when they decide they are done being single. Not even sure whether we eventually figured it out (lol).
We then talked about the idea of the talking stage and what the different stages of that adventure look like. There were a number of moments where we didn’t all see eye to eye on what it meant and how long it should last for. Maybe even too many moments like that 💀.We also tried to answer questions like:“How do you know when you are in the talking stage?”;“Is it fine to talk to multiple people at once?”;“What should come after the talking stage?”.You’ve probably guessed right if you’re assuming that we all had different answers to some of these. But in hindsight, it’s probably because we all interpreted the norms and terminologies around the talking stage + dating differently too.It was full of banter and laughs, and maybe a lot more stressful for ONE of us 😅

S4E7 - Keeping up with the Joneses
Monday Apr 12, 2021
Monday Apr 12, 2021
The one about social comparison.
On this episode, we teamed up with Tosin Lufadeju to talk about our experiences with social comparison.
We pretty much talked about social comparison along many dimensions such as attractiveness/physique, wealth, intelligence, relationships & success.
We talked about the dimensions that we have found ourselves comparing to others more often than not. We also discussed which of those elements motivated us to be better and which ones unknowingly brought the opposite.
It was a great conversation that made us reflect a lot on the things that truly matter. We also got to acknowledge how both our upbringing and backgrounds have played key roles in how we handle comparisons with others in our friendship groups as well as generally speaking.
Having Tosin on was dope, and it reflected in the conversation. Like us, Tosin is from our hometown but now based in Seattle. He’s a Program Manager by day and DJ by night 😉 . Make sure to check out his Soundcloud here!

S4E6 - Dreams, Degrees, and Defining Moments
Monday Apr 05, 2021
Monday Apr 05, 2021
The one about career crossroads.
On this episode, we reunited with @theolamideoladeji, a former classmate of ours from secondary school. Olamide is currently a PhD candidate at Stanford University. He’s also running a tech startup based in Palo Alto.
We began by discussing the earliest #career path we remember wanting to follow as students, dating all the way back to secondary school and undergrad.
Tracing our professional paths back to our educational backgrounds kind of made us question the correlation between where we are now and what we spent 4+ years of higher education studying for.
In hindsight, we realised that the discipline one chooses to study in formal education is mostly a gamble, since there is a lot of evidence out there that suggests many of us get to the final step of formal education and realise we want a different path.
We also spoke about what we would do differently if we could go back in time to change our educational and professional trajectories.
We concluded with the role passion has to play in all of this, as well as trying to highlight the different people, events, and experiences that at the time were insignificant, but ended up serving as huge tipping points in shaping our professional trajectories to date.

S4E5 - Life After Birth
Monday Mar 29, 2021
Monday Mar 29, 2021
The one about postpartum realities - mom edition.
Recording this episode was one of our personal favourites 💫 It was a rollercoaster of emotions in 90 mins of conversation.
Diving deeper into a conversation around postpartum experiences has always been on our minds ever since we spoke broadly on parenthood with @afolakefanseu in S2E6 (August 24, 2020). But we never expected such an enlightening and equally profound conversation when we finally added it to our list of topics for this season.
We sat down with @onyinyeokoligwe and @tami_ojay to discuss their realities and identities as new mothers.
We touched on their delivery day, how they navigated the physical ordeals of having a baby, as well as the physical and emotional highs and lows of life after birth.
We got to understand what a mother’s love can mean, can look like, and why it can't be taken for granted.
We got to understand what it means when people say it takes a village to raise a child. We got to understand the further complexity of being a woman battling multiple identities of being a mother and a working professional.
We got to know that the miraculous experience of childbirth can be subjective and equally valid. We got to know that having a baby is a good example of how we can trivialize the wonders of nature because it’s all around us and all too common.
The conversation made us realise how life after birth is such a unique and challenging experience for each mother, even though there might be billions of mothers in the world.
To all young moms out there, you’re strong and remember that you are not alone in your experiences.

S4E4 - Getting High and Hungover
Monday Mar 22, 2021
Monday Mar 22, 2021
The one about the legality, stigma and hypocrisy surrounding drugs.
On this episode, we spoke about the legality, status, and weird hypocrisy surrounding drugs and drugs use.
Cannabis; Alcohol; Psychedelics; Cocaine; Antidepressants, Opioids; Codeine; Tramadol; “Gutter water”; the list goes on.
What makes these drugs bad or good, and who should be responsible for that distinction. The issue of natural vs lab-made drugs also came up, does a product being natural automatically mean better?
Does the mode of drug consumption also affect the stigma attached to drugs?
How about triggers? Why does our favourite author get away with taking drugs and the person down the road stigmatised? The complex questions go on!
Initially, we thought our stances on drug use were mostly from a cultural, moral, or ‘woke’ stance but the conversation made us realise we were all coming from a place of health, productivity, and facts, and that meant that we had fewer disagreements for the most part about thoughts on drug use.
Shout out to Aneesh for joining us on this complex episode. Aneesh brought very intelligent perspectives to this complex conversation and it was full of laughs despite the depth we tried to achieve.

S4E3 - S. E. X.
Monday Mar 15, 2021
Monday Mar 15, 2021
The one about our varying views on sex.
On this episode, we explored our varying views on sex, what has shaped them, and how or if they’ve changed for us growing up. We also tried to fit our views within the different cultural stances on sex, sexual morality, and the view of sex as a purely physical/biological response to a bodily craving versus something weightier.
It was a little weird and complicated trying to find some version of balance with our views, but we think we eventually came to mutual understandings on certain views on sex.
We wrapped things up by talking about self-worth and how that connects to our perspectives or realities when it comes to matters of sex.

S4E2 - Fragile Generation or Tougher Times?
Monday Mar 08, 2021
Monday Mar 08, 2021
The one about staying sane in the modern world.
On this episode, @letyknudsen tagged along to discuss fragility and tougher times.Lety is a final year student in England, studying Sports Science with Management. She grew up in Panama and has lived in a number of countries including Mexico, Brazil and the UK.We spoke about fragility in the context of one's upbringing, coddling parents and social classes. We talked about social media and the confidence of younger generations. We also spoke about staying sane in a world where 'offence' is always just around the corner.Lety was such a great guest 💫 and we really enjoyed speaking with her.The icing on the cake came when she left us with a very simple but powerful quote from her mom at the of the episode 👌🏾👌🏾. S4E1 - All My Friends Are Married
Monday Mar 01, 2021
Monday Mar 01, 2021
The one about the joys and fears of marriage.
To kick-off a brand new season, we spoke about #marriage as a present reality for our social circles and how we feel about it.Considering the age we are at, it’s normal to see some of our male and female friends starting new families. Our default reaction is usually joy, excitement and gratitude for them but sometimes with a mix of FOMO.We spoke about how growing with our friends and witnessing them start such new journeys sometimes feels unreal, yet very exciting. But it’s also possible that being in social circles where your friends start those journeys can make one feel left out, pressured, or maybe hopeful. We covered this feeling in the episode and described whether or not we feel pressured to think of marriage and how we handle this. After all, pressures are inevitable.
Finally, we spoke about our ideal timelines and projections for the future.
Enjoy the listen!

S3E10 - Wrestling with Original Sins
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Monday Jan 18, 2021
The one about guilt, regrets, and past mistakes.
Many memories have shaped us as adults, but the ones we are quick to tell, share or actively reflect on are typically the ones that paint us in a good light. Or perhaps mistakes from our early adolescent years which no one tends to hold against us.But how about the mistakes we made as teenagers; the decisions we made that we do not like to speak about, the experiences we have gone through that we find hard to talk about, or the ones we have repressed so hard they start to feel like someone else's past.As we bring our 3rd season to a close, we also wanted to see if we could bring some closure to sins and regrets from our past.

S3E9 - A Tech Odyssey
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Monday Jan 11, 2021
The one about our bold tech predictions.
[start time travel ⏳]
The year is 2035.
It has been 15 years since the pandemic shut down the world. But at this time, the world has moved on.
Society has capitalised on big tech to innovate, adapt, and advance.
Self-driving cars dominate some city lanes, cash has gotten obsolete, robots populate shopping malls and industrial facilities, there is a new "Facebook" - but this time we pay for it to keep our privacy, AI has demolished call centres and put many lawyers out of business, Greta Thurnberg is president of something.
In 2035, things are not unfamiliar, yet feel extremely different.
It is a better world for some and a much more displaced world for others.
[end time travel ⌛️]
As we have seen in the last few years, some technological innovations have disrupted the business and social landscape and transformed how we live and work, and that change is only likely to rise.
As they say, change has never been this fast, and will never be this slow again.
On this episode, we sat with Aije, an old friend from high school and Senior Data Scientist and Statistician at IBM (she also runs a career development-focused page on Instagram). We tried to look into the future and make some tech-related predictions about what the future of business, work, and social life will look like!

The Yellow Pill Podcast
We are Wole and Tobi, childhood Nigerian friends now living on different continents & chasing different dreams.
By day, Wole is pursuing a PhD and Tobi is running a startup. By night, we become social artists by inviting guests into our learning experience.
Each week, we step outside the algorithm to take on familiar dilemmas and wicked problems and try to make sense of them.
Sometimes we reach shared understandings and single truths, other times we agree to disagree.
So if you are expecting intimate conversations, piercing thoughts, and provocative questions that can change the way you experience the world and yourself, then the yellow pill is for you.
Each dose of the yellow pill has a side-effect of unsettling truths mixed with innocent ignorance - which is exactly what we need in our strange and unsettling times.
